Suture removal — The timing of suture removal varies with the anatomic site: ? Eyelids – Three days ? Neck – Three to four days ? Face – Five days ? Scalp – Seven to 14 days ? Trunk and upper extremities – Seven days ? Lower extremities – Eight to 10 days Follow-up visits — Most clean wounds do not need to be seen by a physician until suture removal, unless signs of infection develop. Highly contaminated wounds should be seen for follow-up in 48 to 72 hours. It is imperative that clear discharge instructions are given to every patient regarding signs of wound infection.
